For decades, the mainstream media in the United States was accustomed to being able to tell the American people what to think. Unfortunately for them, a whole lot of Americans are starting to break free from that paradigm and think for themselves. A Gallup survey from earlier this year found that 60 percent of all Americans “have little or no trust” in the mainstream media. More people than ever are realizing that the mainstream media is giving them a very distorted version of “the truth” and they are increasingly seeking out alternative sources of information. In the United States today, just six giant media corporations control the mainstream media.

I wouldn’t be surprised if these murders of innocent children aren’t part of their solstice “celebrations” said to be lined up for this time. It certainly sets the bloodthirsty tone, while jacking the emotions of millions that they can vamp on at the same time.

The work of the artist is to express what is repressed or even to speak the unspoken grief of society. And the cartoonist's task is not so much to be balanced as to give balance, particularly in situations of disproportionate power relationships such as we see in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. It is a healthy tradition dating back to the court jester and beyond: to be the dissenting protesting voice that speaks when others cannot or will not.

Gawd help me, I am reprinting a Thomas Friedman piece. I mean he is one of the most egregious war criminals out there. However, this segment reveals shimmering truths:

And there are three things I can tell you about the tiger: 1) Tiger is never going back in that cage; 2) Do not try to ride tiger for your own narrow purposes or party because this tiger only serves Egypt as a whole; 3) Tiger only eats beef. He has been fed every dog food lie in the Arabic language for 60 years, so don’t try doing it again.***

It takes no courage to repeat the delusions of the status quo. On issues like food and health, taking the position that organics are "elitist" or that GMOs don't have to be labeled requires zero personal courage, zero integrity and zero effort. It is cowardly, in fact, to tow the party line whether we're talking about food, economics, the Bill of Rights, vaccines or even spirituality.
What takes real leadership and courage is to question things that don't add up and dare to investigate and report whatever truths might be found. People like Alex Jones routinely question the false realities of government and economics that are pushed onto a gullible population.
