Youth Against Normalization: #BDS Quakers divest from HP and Veolia Environment
September 24, 2012, Ann Arbor. Friends Fiduciary Corporation, the socially responsible investment firm serving over 300 Quaker institutions in the United States, has dropped its holdings in Hewlett Packard and Veolia Environment, multinational corporations that support Israel’s Occupation of the Palestinian Territories.
Hewlett Packard was removed from Friends Fiduciary’s investments because they provide information technology consulting services to the Israeli Navy, said Jeffery W. Perkins, the Executive Director of Friends Fiduciary. Veolia Environment, the world’s largest water privatization company, was removed because of “environmental and social concerns.” According to Global Exchange, Veolia provides segregated water services to Israeli settlers in the Palestinian Territories and runs a large landfill in the occupied Jordan River valley.
Friends’ Fiduciary’s decision to drop Hewlett Packard and Veolia follows on the heels of another important action, says Anne Remley of the Ann Arbor Friends Meeting, which initiated the divestment requests. In April, 2012, Friends Fiduciary’s removed Caterpillar Corporation from their list of socially responsible corporations based on the 360-year old Quaker Peace Testimony, which disavows support for war.
Friends were concerned that Caterpillar sells bulldozers to the Israeli army to be weaponized and used in the systematic demolition of Palestinian homes and civilian infrastructure. When this concern was brought to Friends Fiduciary, says Perkins, [Caterpillar] “would neither confirm nor deny the extent or type of modifications to the equipment sold to the Israeli military.”
The action of Friends Fiduciary in dropping these three firms marks a major breakthrough in the global campaign to hold corporations accountable for profiting from Israel’s human rights and international law violations in the Palestinian Territories.

....some people are just too big to bring down easily, so there is a certain risk in attacking Dowd—that such attacks will result in a loss of credibility. There’s definitely an art to continually lying through your teeth that black is white and expecting people to fall in line when the results are completely contrary to their interests. You have to pick your battles and hope that things don’t get too out of control.
But having said that, the fact that they avoided this battle may be a sign that the organized Jewish community is on the defensive on the role of Jews in U.S. foreign policy. It’s about time.

For example, what was once normal blood pressure is now too high or, if approaching high, is called "pre-hypertension" and Big Pharma recommends treatment.
That means doctors are rewarded by drug companies for prescribing more and more drugs. Perhaps most disturbing is what Hunt calls a "prescribing cascade." Simply put, drugs are prescribed to help relieve side effects caused by other drugs. Then still more drugs can be prescribed to relieve any new side-effects from the recently prescribed drugs.

Arabs demand the US respect their culture. But the cannon-loaded warships will not serve that purpose. ... US warships can only generate more hatred from the Islamic world ... Americans hold a deep sense of cultural superiority. They see many other cultures as being marginal with an exotic value. If other cultures stand against the West, they would be labeled as bizarre and harmful.
Islamic culture is sensitive due to its relatively disadvantageous position in the world. The world should respect their sentiments ... Provocations against the Islamic faith have occurred repeatedly in the West ... Americans must sincerely learn about other cultures. They should be able to find the merits of other cultures, which have helped many emerging countries develop rapidly ... Many people in the world are restraining their discontent toward the US. Christopher Stevens, the US ambassador to Libya murdered earlier today was a martyr to Zionist attempts to draw the US into war with Iran.
The attack on the US consulate in Benghazi was prompted by an insulting film made by Zionist Jews that depict the prophet Mohammed, and Muslims in general, as killers and perverts.
The film which provoked Muslim outrage is a gratuitous hate crime but since Jews define "hate" (as anything they hate,) the director Sam Bacile(above), 56, has not been charged. Nor have the more than 100 Jewish donors who financed the $5 million effort.
"Speaking by phone from an undisclosed location Tuesday, writer and director Sam Bacile, remained defiant, saying Islam is a cancer."
Bacile, a California real estate developer who identifies himself as an Israeli Jew, said he believes the movie will help his native land by exposing Islam's flaws to the world.

Egyptian President Mohamed Mursi on Wednesday told a meeting of Arab League ministers that he rejects any military intervention in Syria and support a political solution of Arab sponsorship to stop the bloodshed in the country.
“Syria, a founding member of the Arab League has a special place in the heart of every Egyptian, and we are responsible for the Syrian blood,” he said in his opening speech.
Mursi pointed out that Egypt “stands by the Syrian people in gaining their full rights without interfering in their domestic affairs,” adding that 'there is still a chance to end the bloodshed and start the change.”
The Egyptian President also announced his country's readiness “to send teachers to Turkey to carry out duties towards the Syrian refugees during the coming academic year."
On the other hand, Mursi believed that the Palestinian cause is the Arab nation’s first priority, stating that “the Arab nation will only present a just solution for the Palestinian issue."
Mursi, however, stressed the need to restore unity within Palestinian ranks and achieve reconciliation, adding "we have to do to make a diplomatic action to restore the rights of the Palestinian people."
The newly elected President told ministers at the Arab League headquarters that he wanted Egypt to "regain its natural place in the Arab world, contributing to help its people build a bright Arab future."
He said that Egypt had "unfortunately been absent from Arab work for a while."
"We return from this marginalization, where we have lived in recent decades, back to Egypt's natural historic role," Mursi said.
